Ear surgery, also known as otoplasty — can improve the shape,
position or proportion of the ear. It can correct a defect in
the ear structure that is present at birth that becomes apparent
with development or it can treat misshapen ears caused by
injury.
The surgery can be done by the end of the growth of the ear that
is to say from the age of 7 or 8 years.
This surgery, for aesthetic purposes, intended to reshape the
helix.
The ear surgery is done under local anesthesia in an outpatient
visit.
The incision is made behind the ears. The surgeon cut rasp
cartilage and eventually the muscle behind the ears. Then he
made the folding of the cartilage and the insertion of the shell
(flag cavity).
Resumption of normal activity after 5 days. The final result of
otoplasty is 3 to 6 months after surgery.
Also fissures due to earrings can be treated surgically by
simple closure of the two ends.
